This book has been published to mark one hundred years since the establishment of the Waikato Chamber of Commerce and Industry, originally called the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce.
'Connections: A Century of Commerce and Industry in the Waikato 1906-2006' reports many of the activities of the Chamber during the past century, and relates them to important local, regional, national, and international contexts. These include municipal controversies in Hamilton, the development of the dairy industry in the Waikato region, the impact of national politics, the influence of world markets, innovations in retailing and the rise of manufacturing.
The book is lavishly illustrated, with over 200 photographs that depict a wide range of people, places and businesses. The photographs provide a valuable and highly attractive visual record of changing patterns of life and commerce through the period from 1906 to 2006.
